Dear Mr. Nadziejko and classmates,
I would like your permission to write about the Randolph County Humane Society located in Sparta, Illinois. This particular humane society is a no-kill animal shelter. I chose this group to research because I love animals and have always had an interest in animal activists. By doing my research on this subculture, I will not only have the opportunity to observe, but also volunteer at this facility. I will also be able to visit the humane society frequently because they are open regular hours throughout the week.
During my research I will be gathering information about the shelter itself and the people who volunteer there. This shelter has it's own website which will be a good source of information. I will be observing how the animals are treated at the shelter and the relationships between the animals and their temporary care takers. I can ask the vounteers about some of their experiences while dedicating their time there. I can ask them how success stories about finding good homes for the animals. I can ask about their personal feelings about the animals they take in and the people who drop them off there.
I can also find out what it takes to adopt a pet from a humane society. What questions do they ask a prospective adopter? Do they deny certain people from adopting an animal? I can also write about all the different fundraisers this humane society holds in order to collect money. There is a lot of information I can gather by observing and volunteering at this shelter and I would really like to research it.

great story many people don't know about the no kill and it would be great to let others know about animal adoption
ReplyDeleteI also love animals very much i am excited to hear about this shelter. you sound well prepared. You could also talk about where they find most of the animals.

good subject i have always wondered about what happens to strays and the animals that end up in the shelter
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good topic to inform people about because I do not know much about it and maybe if I did I would be more supportive of the group.

Great topic. You could also maybe talk about shelter's that are not no kill to show people the importance of the no kill shelters. You could talk about how important it is to adopt instead of buying dogs. A lot of people don't realize that shelters have a lot of pedigree dogs and not just what you would call mutts. Love this topic!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to talk about the general history of the Humane Society organization, and all that they do with puppy mills and other animals rights abuses outside of their shelters.
ReplyDeleteI love your topic, partially because I am an animal lover. On the point of how to adopt an animal, are the prospective adopters allowed to interact with the animal before making a decision? Also, I've read that the dogs and cats have "color coding" based on their dispositions, how obedient they are. Maybe you could look into this and explain what the different colors are. This way, if anyone ever wanted to adopt an animal they would already have information about the animal based on the colors.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and have fun!

Awesome topic. You have a lot of access it seems like, so thats great. I also love animals, so I'm very excited to hear about this particular humane society. I have adopted animals in the past and I would too, like to see you talk about the importance of adopting. I like this no kill policy they have, I'm interested to see your approach about other shelters that do not practice this. Overall, good job and Looking forward to this topic.
ReplyDeleteVery good topic. I love animals and the no kill is a great thing in my eyes. I have always wanted to know how you can adopt from a Humane Society. When the Humane Society first open here close to Red Bud, I wanted to go volunteer but I haven't had the chance. You sound well prepared. Maybe when you fix the letter for tuesday add a link to the website.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic! Do we have a problem with the illegal dog fighting in this area? I am glad there is a no kill law! What happens in this shelter if over crowding occurs? With the economy so rotten, is there a lack of funding for these poor animals?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great topic! My family adopted a dog from there 4 years ago. Can't wait to hear more about your topic! good luck!
ReplyDeletegreat topic.at the one in outside of town i aways see people walking the dogs and petting them and it seems like they get out alot and get attention. since this one is a no kill maybe talk about its capasity and what happends to the animal if this shelter is full.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great group and should be able to get a lot of information about it. It will be interesting to read more about this topic. My family has adopted dogs before and i believe it is great your doing your topic on this.
